"We Should Have Listened to God"
By Pastor Naveen Kumar Valluri – Jehovah Saints Church, India
Pastor Naveen Kumar Valluri recently shared a picture of the Jehovah Saints Church members in India. His latest sermon emphasizes the importance of listening to God and obeying His Word.
Key Message:
God has always made His will clear, but humanity often chooses its own way, leading to dire consequences. This was evident in the story of Adam and Eve, and it continues to affect us today.
Main Points of the Sermon
1. God’s Instructions Are Clear
God gave Adam and Eve a direct command:
Genesis 2:16-17:
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’”
God’s instructions were simple and for their benefit, but they chose to listen to the serpent instead of trusting Him.
2. The Devil’s Deception
The devil’s strategy is to twist God’s word and sow doubt:
Genesis 3:4-5:
“Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’”
The devil presents disobedience as something desirable, but it always leads to destruction.
3. The Consequences of Not Listening to God
Adam and Eve’s disobedience brought sin and death into the world:
Romans 5:12:
“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
When we choose to ignore God’s Word, we experience unnecessary pain, suffering, and separation from Him.
4. We Repeat the Same Mistake
Just like Adam and Eve, we often know what God wants but choose our own way:
Proverbs 14:12:
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
Isaiah 53:6:
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Instead of trusting God, we lean on our own understanding:
Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
5. The Blessing of Listening to God
When we listen to God, we experience His blessings and guidance:
Psalm 119:105:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
James 1:22:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Obedience to God leads to eternal life:
John 14:15:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Matthew 7:24-25:
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Prayer
Dear God,
Help us to have the wisdom and good judgment to listen to Your Word. May we follow the teachings of the Holy Spirit, as inspired in the Bible. Forgive us for the times we have chosen our own way over Yours. Strengthen our faith so we can resist the devil’s temptations and walk in obedience to You. Let us live lives that honor You and lead us to eternity in heaven.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Message
Let us learn from Adam and Eve’s mistake. God’s way is always the best way. The consequences of “doing it our way” are too great to bear. Let’s commit to listening to God and obeying His Word.
Let’s go to heaven together. I love you.
