In the democratic fabric of our society, laws are often a reflection of the collective faith of the people. They represent what we, as a society, believe to be right and just. However, it is important to remember that human thoughts and ways are not always aligned with divine wisdom. As the scriptures remind us, “God’s thoughts are not man’s thoughts, and God’s ways are not man’s ways.” Isaiah 55:8
The Impact of Faith on Legislation
Faith, in its many forms, can sometimes lead to the enactment of laws that may not serve the best interests of all members of society. Those with weaker faith may vote many laws into effect, not realizing the potential harm they could cause to future generations. The elderly and children, often the most vulnerable members of our society, may bear the brunt of these laws.
The Question of Homelessness
Despite the wealth and resources at its disposal, our government has yet to effectively address the issue of homelessness. It is a sad reality that in a country as prosperous as ours, so many of our fellow citizens are forced to live on the streets. The focus of the government seems to be more on taxation, rather than addressing this pressing issue of homelessness. And with more taxation, just creates even more homelessness. If taxes were lower for the corporations, they could create more jobs, which would lead to more taxes collected from all the new workers, and would create jobs for the homeless. Works better this way.
International Aid vs Domestic Needs
While it is commendable to assist other nations in need, it is equally important to ensure the well-being of our own citizens. The allocation of billions of dollars in aid to other countries, while our own people suffer, is a paradox that many find hard to understand.
Lessons from History
History offers us valuable lessons. The mighty Roman Empire, which once taxed the entire world, eventually fell. This serves as a stark reminder that even the most powerful nations can crumble. It underscores the importance of prioritizing the needs of our own citizens, especially when they are in dire straits.
In conclusion, while faith plays a crucial role in shaping our laws and society, it is essential to ensure that these laws serve the best interests of all members of society. Furthermore, the government must strike a balance between its domestic responsibilities and its international commitments. Only then can we hope to build a society that is truly just and equitable.
