The Archangel Michael: A Symbol of Protection and Service

The Bible may not speak much about the Archangel Michael, but his presence is felt in the hearts of those who believe. Archangel Michael protects and serves the people of Heaven and Earth.

The Meaning of Service

In the grand scheme of things, one who “serves” is a “servant” to the people. This applies to everyone, from the humblest citizen to the highest King. A King is a “servant” to the people, and the people are a “servant” to the King. No one is greater than the other, yet a true King possesses more wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, and is less judgmental than anyone else.

The Compassionate King

Do you want a King that is going to judge you harshly all the time, and punish you harshly all the time? Or would you prefer a King that is as compassionate and loving “Like” God? This is what the name “Michael” means. Michael means “Like God”.

"King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, “How do you advise me to answer this people?” Elders said to him, “If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”

The Arch

Speaking of arches, let us remember the Gateway Arch in St Louis, Missouri, USA. This magnificent structure stands as a symbol of human achievement and aspiration. Just as the Gateway Arch stands tall and proud, so does the Archangel Michael, serving as a beacon of hope and protection for all.

Scriptures

There are several scriptures that highlight these themes:

  • Daniel 12:1: “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.”

  • Hebrews 6:10: “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”

  • Matthew 20:26-28: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

These scriptures remind us of the importance of service, compassion, and protection in our lives, just as the Archangel Michael does in his divine duties.
