Significance of the Word “Lord” and "Jesus"

Word “Lord” in the Bible and a Comparison with the Quran

The word “Lord” is used more frequently than any other word in the Bible. In the King James Version, Lord appears 6,753 times. Also the word "Lord" is found 7,127 in the Quran

Definition of “Lord”

The word “Lord” is used to denote someone or something having power, authority, or influence. It can refer to a master, ruler, or deity. In the context of the Bible, “Lord” is often used to refer to God the Father, Jesus the Savior, and the Holy Spirit. The term originates from Old English hlāford, meaning “bread-keeper,” which evolved from a Germanic base.

The Bible consists of 66 books in the Protestant tradition, divided into two main sections: the Old Testament with 39 books and the New Testament with 27 books. The Bible is a collection of texts written over a span of approximately 1,500 years. The oldest parts, such as the books attributed to Moses, were written around 1500–1400 BC. The most recent books, like those in the New Testament, were written in the late first century AD.

This means the Bible, in its entirety, has texts that are nearly 3,500 years old.

The word Jesus refers to the central figure of Christianity, believed by Christians to be the Son of God and the Messiah who came to save humanity from sin. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection are the foundation of the Christian faith.

The name “Jesus” comes from the Latin “Iesus,” which is derived from the Greek “Iēsous,” and ultimately from the Hebrew name “Yehoshua” (Joshua), meaning "Yahweh is salvation"

In comparison, the Quran is approximately 1,400 years old. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of about 23 years, starting around 610 AD and concluding in 632 AD. The Quran mentions Jesus (known as 'Isa in Arabic) 235 times, highlighting his role as a prophet, his miraculous birth, and his miracles. In contrast, the Bible mentions Jesus approximately 942 times, covering his life, teachings, miracles, crucifixion, and resurrection.

While the Quran acknowledges Jesus as a significant prophet, the Bible provides a more extensive account of his life and teachings.
