Directly after His baptism by John the Baptist, Jesus found Himself led by the Spirit into the desert. It was there, amid the harsh and barren landscape, that He was to be tempted by the devil. The temptations Jesus faced were intense and challenging, designed to exploit human weaknesses. Yet, Jesus, embodying divine strength and wisdom, remained unyielding and faithful to God's will.
His resolve did not waver, even as the devil tried to coax Him into turning stones into bread to satisfy His hunger, or to test God's protection by leaping from the highest point of the temple, or even to trade His allegiance for all the kingdoms of the world. The devil's temptations were relentless, but Jesus, armed with the Word of God, remained steadfast. He responded to each temptation with Scripture, reinforcing the profound truth that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Lazarus fell sick and despite the desperate prayers of his sisters, he passed away.
By the time Jesus arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been lying in his tomb for four days. Now imagine the scene. The mourners were gathered, their hearts heavy with grief. Mary and Martha were devastated, their faith shaken. They both said to Jesus, If you had been here, my brother would not have died. But Jesus in His infinite wisdom had a greater plan. He told them, Your brother will rise again. But Martha thought he was referring to the resurrection at the last day. Jesus clarified, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even though they die. And whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this? With this powerful declaration, Jesus asserted His divine authority over life and death. He then proceeded to the tomb, where He called out in a loud voice, Lazarus come out and to the amazement of all present, Lazarus came out...
