Pastor Suresh Kumar Vinnakoti of Jehovah Saints in India

Pastor Suresh Kumar Vinnakoti shared photos of his congregation and a sermon he delivered, focusing on the teachings of Exodus 20 and its relevance to both the Old and New Testament laws.

Exodus 20: The Ten Commandments

The sermon began with a reflection on Exodus 20, which outlines the Ten Commandments, a fundamental part of the Law of Moses. These commandments include:

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

  2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  5. Honor your father and your mother.

  6. You shall not murder.

  7. You shall not commit adultery.

  8. You shall not steal.

  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  10. You shall not covet.

These commandments served as the moral foundation for the Israelites and were central to their covenant with God.

The Law of Moses vs. The New Testament

Pastor Suresh highlighted the transition from the Law of Moses to the New Testament law, as explained in the book of Galatians. Key points included:

  • The Law of Moses: A system of rules and rituals given to guide the Israelites in their relationship with God and others.

  • The New Testament: Focuses on grace and faith through Jesus Christ, fulfilling the law.

Galatians 3:23-25

"Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian."

Pastor Suresh emphasized that while the Law of Moses was important for its time, Jesus brought a new covenant based on love, grace, and faith.

Reflection and Application

The sermon concluded with an invitation to reflect on how the Ten Commandments still hold moral value today while embracing the freedom and grace offered through Jesus Christ. Pastor Suresh encouraged the congregation to live out their faith by loving God and others, as Jesus summarized in

Matthew 22:37-40:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
