Jesus’ Reward for Doing Good

The Ultimate Sacrifice: Jesus’ Reward for Doing Good

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of selfless love, compassion, and His reward from mankind was getting nailed to a piece of wood. So do you think you are any different than Jesus? Or do you think you will get rewarded by mankind for doing good? Do not expect a reward from man, but;

  • Matthew 6:20 "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Throughout Jesus' ministry, He went about doing good for everyone, healing the blind, curing the sick, casting out demons, and even bringing the dead back to life. His acts of kindness and miracles were unparalleled, yet the reward He received from mankind was one of immense suffering and sacrifice.

Jesus’ Ministry of Goodness

Jesus’ life was marked by countless acts of goodness and mercy. He healed the blind, as seen in John 9:1-12, where He gave sight to a man born blind. He cured the sick, such as the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25-34. He cast out demons, like in Mark 5:1-20, where He freed a man possessed by a legion of demons. He even raised the dead, as in John 11:1-44, where He brought Lazarus back to life.

The Reward for His Goodness

Despite His unwavering goodness, Jesus faced unimaginable suffering. He was tortured with a whip on His back (John 19:1), nailed to a cross (John 19:18), and crowned with thorns (John 19:2). His side was pierced (John 19:34), fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah 53:5: “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”

The Lesson for Us

If mankind could inflict such suffering on Jesus, the Son of God, it serves as a sobering reminder of the potential for human cruelty. As Jesus Himself said in John 15:20, “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.”

However, Jesus’ story does not end in suffering. His resurrection is a testament to the ultimate victory over sin and death. Romans 2:7 reminds us, “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.” This promise of eternal life is the true reward for those who follow in Jesus’ footsteps, despite the trials they may face.

Conclusion

Jesus’ life and sacrifice teach us that doing good may not always be met with immediate rewards or recognition. In fact, it may lead to suffering and persecution. Yet, the eternal reward promised by God far outweighs any earthly trials. As we strive to do good, let us remember Jesus’ example and hold fast to the hope of eternal life.
