Empowering Women Through Faith and Action

Opening Scripture:"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."— Proverbs 31:25

President Shahid Saleem of Jehovah Saints Pakistan recently traveled to Lahore to lead a women's meeting. This meeting focused on critical topics aimed at empowering women and equipping them to live lives of faith, purpose, and strength. The themes discussed included:

  1. Empowerment of women.

  2. Facing difficulties.

  3. Child training.

  4. Women's sense of self-worth and their rights.

  5. Their ability to influence the direction of society.

  6. Their right to have access to opportunities and resources.

Let us explore these themes through the lens of Scripture and reflect on how God’s Word calls us to uplift and empower women in their roles as daughters of God.

1. Empowerment of Women

Empowering women is not just a social goal; it is a biblical principle. Throughout Scripture, God has used women to fulfill His purposes, showing that women are vital to His plan.

  • Deborah as a Leader:Deborah, a prophetess and judge, led Israel during a time of crisis. She was empowered by God to lead her people to victory.

    • Judges 4:4-5: "Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah."

  • Empowerment Through the Holy Spirit:Just as God empowered women in the Bible, He continues to empower women today through His Spirit.

    • Acts 2:17: "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy."

2. Facing Difficulties

Life is full of challenges, but God gives us the strength to face them. Women often bear unique burdens, whether in their families, workplaces, or communities. The Bible provides encouragement for those facing difficulties.

  • God's Promise of Strength:

    • Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

  • Perseverance in Trials: Women are called to persevere through trials, trusting God to bring them through.

    • James 1:2-4: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance."

3. Child Training

The role of women in raising and training children is one of the most important responsibilities given by God. Mothers are called to nurture their children in the ways of the Lord.

  • Teaching Children About God:

    • Proverbs 22:6: "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."

  • Passing on Faith:Timothy’s faith was shaped by the influence of his mother and grandmother, showing the importance of women in spiritual training.

    • 2 Timothy 1:5: "I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."

4. Women's Sense of Self-Worth and Their Rights

A woman’s value is not determined by societal standards but by her identity in Christ. Women are created in the image of God and are precious in His sight.

  • Created in God’s Image:

    • Genesis 1:27: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

  • God’s Love for Women:

    • Psalm 139:14: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Women also have God-given rights to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. Jesus Himself demonstrated this in how He treated women during His ministry.

  • Jesus Affirmed Women’s Worth:

    • John 4:27: "Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, 'What do you want?' or 'Why are you talking with her?'”

5. Women’s Ability to Influence Society

Women have the power to shape the direction of society through their faith, wisdom, and actions. The Bible highlights women who made significant impacts on their communities and nations.

  • Esther’s Courage: Esther used her position to save her people, showing how one woman’s courage can change the course of history.

    • Esther 4:14: "And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

  • The Proverbs 31 Woman: The Proverbs 31 woman is a model of someone who influences her household and community through her wisdom, diligence, and fear of the Lord.

    • Proverbs 31:26: "She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."

6. Women’s Right to Access Opportunities and Resources

God’s desire is for all His children, men and women alike, to have access to opportunities and resources that allow them to thrive and fulfill their God-given potential.

  • Equality in Christ:

    • Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

  • God’s Provision for All: God provides resources for His people and calls us to share them equitably.

    • 2 Corinthians 9:8: "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

Call to Action: Empowered Women, Empowered Communities

The meeting in Lahore led by President Shahid Saleem was a powerful reminder of the importance of empowering women in every area of life. Women are called by God to:

  • Stand strong in their faith.

  • Overcome challenges with God’s help.

  • Raise the next generation in righteousness.

  • Recognize their worth and rights in Christ.

  • Influence society for the better.

  • Access the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.

When women are empowered, families, churches, and communities are strengthened. Let us continue to pray for and support the empowerment of women in Pakistan and around the world.

Closing Scripture:"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."— Proverbs 31:30

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the women You have placed in our lives and in our communities. Help us to empower them, encourage them, and support them in fulfilling their God-given purpose. May they know their worth in You and stand strong in the face of challenges. Bless the work of President Shahid Saleem and Jehovah Saints Pakistan as they continue to uplift and equip women for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
