A Story of Faith and Compassion: Trusting in God's Plan

Archbishop Samuel Ongong'a of Jehovah Saints Church, Tanzania shared a touching story and photo, recounting his visit to a couple in need. He said:

"I visited them in a place they are sleeping, needed to talk to them about Christ, and they gave their life to Jesus. But because they know me, they told me one thing: 'We received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but we don't have a place to put our heads, me and my wife, as you see.' I prayed for them and said, 'God is great, so let us wait and see what is His plan for you (them).'"

This story is a powerful reminder of the following truths:

1. The Power of the Gospel

Even in the most challenging circumstances, the message of Christ brings hope and transformation. This couple, despite their physical hardships, embraced Jesus as their Lord and Savior, demonstrating that faith transcends material conditions.

  • Romans 10:13–14:

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?"

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17:

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

Through Archbishop Ongong'a's faithful witness, this couple found new life in Christ.

2. God's Care for the Needy

Jehovah is deeply concerned for those in need, and He calls His people to care for them as well. The couple's plight reminds us of the many who lack basic necessities, yet Jehovah sees and provides for them in His perfect timing.

  • Psalm 34:18:

"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

  • Matthew 6:31–33:

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Jehovah's provision is often revealed through the prayers and actions of His people.

3. Faith in God's Plan

The Archbishop's prayer, "Let us wait and see what is His plan," reflects a deep trust in Jehovah's sovereignty. While the couple's situation may seem dire, faith assures us that God has a purpose and will provide in His time.

  • Jeremiah 29:11:

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

  • Romans 8:28:

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."

Waiting on Jehovah requires patience and trust, knowing that His plans are always for our ultimate good.

4. Our Role in Helping Others

As followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet, extending love and support to those in need. The Archbishop's visit and prayer are examples of how we can bring hope and encouragement to others.

  • Hebrews 13:16:

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."

  • James 2:15–17:

"If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

We are called to pray, provide, and trust Jehovah to work through us to meet the needs of others.

Final Reflection

This story is a testament to the power of faith and compassion. It reminds us that Jehovah sees the struggles of His children and is working out His plans for their good. As we wait on His timing, let us continue to share His love and care for those in need.

"Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the Lord delivers him."(Psalm 41:1)

May we be inspired by Archbishop Ongong'a's faith and compassion, trusting that Jehovah will provide for this couple and others like them in His perfect way.
